How to Build a Supplement Stack: A Doctor's Guide to Combining Supplements Safely
The phrase "supplement stack" can sound intimidating — like something only elite athletes or hardcore biohackers need to worry about. In reality, a supplement stack is just a thoughtful selection of supplements that complement each other, taken consistently to support specific health goals.
Done well, stacking amplifies the benefits of individual supplements. Done poorly, it wastes money, risks nutrient competition, and occasionally causes problems. Here's how to do it well.
Step 1: Define Your Goal
Different goals call for different stacks. Before buying anything, be honest about what you're trying to achieve:
- Energy and performance: NMN + Shilajit + Magnesium
- Healthy ageing and longevity: NMN Plus + NAD+ Complex + Collagen
- Sleep and recovery: Magnesium Glycinate + Bio Cultures + Collagen
- Skin, hair and gut health: Collagen 5-in-1 + Caviar Astaxanthin + Bio Cultures
- Comprehensive: NMN Plus + Shilajit + Magnesium + Collagen + Bio Cultures
The Synergistic Combinations That Actually Work
NMN + Trans-Resveratrol — NMN raises NAD+, and resveratrol activates sirtuins (SIRT1, SIRT3) that NAD+ powers. These work on the same pathway and amplify each other. This is why NMN Plus includes resveratrol, and why David Sinclair famously takes both together.
Magnesium + NMN — Magnesium is a cofactor in over 300 enzymatic reactions, several of which are involved in the NAD+ biosynthesis pathway. Taking magnesium alongside NMN supports the enzymatic processes that convert NMN to NAD+.
Collagen + Vitamin C — Already combined in our Collagen 5-in-1 formula for a reason. Vitamin C is essential for collagen synthesis — without it, the collagen your body produces lacks structural integrity.
Live Cultures + Prebiotics — Again, already combined in Bio Cultures Complex. Prebiotic FOS and inulin feed the live culture bacteria, dramatically improving their survival and colonisation in the gut.
Shilajit + NMN — Shilajit supports mitochondrial function through dibenzo-alpha-pyrones, while NMN supports it through NAD+ production. These are complementary pathways to the same endpoint — better cellular metabolism.
Timing: When to Take What
Morning (with or before food): NMN Pure / NMN Plus, NAD+ Complex, Shilajit Complex, Collagen Complex, Bio Cultures (30 mins before food)
Evening: Magnesium Glycinate — its calming, sleep-supportive properties are best utilised before bed
With food: Caviar Astaxanthin — fat-soluble compounds absorb better with a meal containing fat
What to Avoid Combining
Most quality supplements can be taken together safely. A few considerations:
- Avoid taking iron supplements at the same time as zinc, calcium or magnesium — these minerals compete for absorption. Space them by at least two hours
- High-dose Vitamin D (above 5,000 IU) should be taken with Vitamin K2 to ensure calcium is directed to bones rather than soft tissues
- If you take prescription blood thinners, check with your GP before adding resveratrol or high-dose fish oils
Our Ready-Made Stacks
If you'd rather not build a stack from scratch, our bundles are pre-designed around these synergistic principles:
- The Powerhouse Pack — NMN Plus + NAD+ Complex + Shilajit for cellular metabolism and performance
- The Vital Energy Trio — NMN Plus + Shilajit + Magnesium for sustained daily energy
- The Glow & Flow Bundle — Caviar Astaxanthin + Collagen 5-in-1 + Bio Cultures for skin and gut health
- The Calm & Strong Set — Magnesium + Collagen + Bio Cultures for recovery and sleep
