NMN Dosage Guide UK: How Much NMN Should You Take?

The complete clinical guide to NMN dosing — by age, by goal, by experience level. Evidence-based recommendations from a 26-year NHS GP.

The most common dosing question in my surgery: "I've seen NMN sold in everything from 100mg to 1,000mg capsules. What dose should I actually take?"

The clinical answer is more straightforward than the supplement market suggests. The vast majority of evidence is at the 250–500mg daily range, which is where I recommend most people start and stay. Higher doses are not always better — and may not provide proportionally more benefit.

The Clinical Evidence — Doses Studied in Human Trials

500mg

600mg

900mg

Trials at all these doses have shown significant NAD+ increases and good safety profiles. The 2024 RCT comparing 300mg, 600mg and 900mg found benefits at all three doses — but the marginal benefit of going above 600mg was modest, suggesting diminishing returns at higher doses.

My Clinical Recommendations

Adults under 40: 500mg daily is the most evidence-based starting dose. NAD+ decline is real but not yet pronounced — 500mg is sufficient to maintain cellular metabolism.

Adults 40–50: 500mg daily, with the option to increase to 750mg after 8 weeks if you want more pronounced effects. Most people in this age group do well at 500mg.

Adults 50+: Start at 500mg for the first 4–6 weeks, then consider 750–1,000mg if you want maximum effect. NAD+ decline is most pronounced at this stage so the larger doses may be more justified.

Active athletes/heavy training load: 500–750mg daily, taken in the morning. The cellular metabolism demand of regular intensive training warrants the upper end of the standard range.

Timing — Morning, Evening, With Food?

The clinical evidence and the practical consensus both point in the same direction: morning, with a small amount of food.

  • Morning: aligns with your body's natural NAD+ production cycle and avoids any sleep disruption
  • With food: reduces the small chance of mild stomach upset and improves Resveratrol absorption if you're taking NMN Plus
  • Daily consistency: NMN works on cumulative cellular biology. Daily dosing meaningfully outperforms intermittent dosing

What About Sublingual NMN?

Some sources advocate sublingual (under-the-tongue) NMN administration on the basis that it bypasses the digestive system. The clinical evidence here is weaker than the marketing suggests — recent trials with oral NMN show clear NAD+ rises, and the practical advantage of capsules (consistent dose, easy to take) generally outweighs any theoretical absorption benefit of sublingual.

NMN vs NMN + Resveratrol — Same Dose Question?

Yes. The recommended NMN dose is the same whether you're taking NMN alone or NMN + Resveratrol (the Sinclair protocol). The Resveratrol activates the SIRT1 pathway that NAD+ powers, but the NAD+ dose target is unchanged. Our NMN Plus delivers 500mg β-NMN + Trans-Resveratrol in a single capsule for this reason.
