Anti-Ageing Supplements UK
The phrase "anti-ageing supplements" is overused. In the UK, the regulator (the Advertising Standards Authority) takes a strict view on what supplements can legally claim. This page tells you what the evidence-based options actually are — using only authorised UK health claims for the vitamins and minerals where they exist, and factual research-framing for ingredients that don't have authorised claims (NMN, resveratrol, collagen, astaxanthin and adaptogens).

What "Anti-Ageing" Actually Means in a UK Regulatory Context
Strictly, "anti-ageing" is not itself an authorised health claim under the GB Nutrition and Health Claims Register. Specific contributions are authorised for specific vitamins and minerals. For example: Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin. Magnesium contributes to normal psychological function. Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Beyond authorised vitamin/mineral claims, the published research literature has examined many ingredients commonly marketed in the anti-ageing category — NMN, NAD+ precursors, resveratrol, astaxanthin, collagen peptides, adaptogens. None of these has authorised UK health claims. That doesn't mean the research isn't interesting; it means the research hasn't passed the EFSA evidentiary threshold. We describe these ingredients factually and link to evidence-review articles.
The Authorised-Claim Foundation — Where the Strongest Evidence Sits
Magnesium
Public Health England's National Diet and Nutrition Survey shows a substantial proportion of UK adults consume less magnesium than the Reference Nutrient Intake. Magnesium has nine authorised UK health claims, including:
- Magnesium contributes to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
- Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function.
- Magnesium contributes to normal functioning of the nervous system.
- Magnesium contributes to normal psychological function.
- Magnesium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth.
Magnesium glycinate is the bioavailable form most clinicians recommend. See our Magnesium Glycinate at £6.99/month.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C has multiple authorised claims directly relevant to structural ageing:
- Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin.
- Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of bones, cartilage, gums, teeth and blood vessels.
- Vitamin C contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
Our Collagen Complex 5-in-1 contains Vitamin C at the dose threshold required to use these claims.
Biotin
- Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair.
- Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.
- Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes.
Biotin is included in our Collagen Complex 5-in-1 at the threshold dose for these authorised claims.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress. Our Caviar Astaxanthin Complex includes Vitamin E at the dose threshold required for this claim.
Researched Ingredients Without Authorised UK Claims
NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide)
NMN is the most direct oral precursor to NAD+. Published research has examined the effect of oral NMN on circulating NAD+ levels in humans, with mostly positive findings at doses of 250–900mg/day. Whether the consequent biological changes translate to outcomes humans care about is where the evidence base is still maturing. NMN has no authorised UK health claims; nothing on this page asserts that NMN does X or Y for you.
Our NMN Pure (500mg β-NMN, £7.99/month) and NMN Plus (NMN + Trans-Resveratrol, £9.99/month) are independently tested at 95.8% purity. For our evidence review see Does NMN Really Work? An Honest Doctor's Review.
Astaxanthin and Caviar Omega-3
Astaxanthin is a naturally-occurring xanthophyll carotenoid found in microalgae and certain marine organisms. Published research has examined astaxanthin in cellular, animal and human trials. Astaxanthin has no authorised UK claim. We describe it factually in our Caviar Astaxanthin Complex; the same formula contains Vitamin E, which carries the authorised oxidative-stress protection claim, and phospholipid-bound Omega-3 (EPA and DHA) from Royal Caviar Extract.
Marine Collagen Peptides
Marine collagen peptides are hydrolysed collagen derived from fish, broken down into smaller molecular weight peptides than bovine collagen. Marine collagen as an ingredient has no authorised UK health claim. The reason our Collagen Complex 5-in-1 makes structural skin-formation claims is because the authorised claim is on the Vitamin C, not the collagen peptides — Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation. If you're taking standalone collagen peptides without adequate Vitamin C at the threshold dose, you're paying for a protein with a thin evidence base for the specific claim being marketed.
Shilajit and the Adaptogen Family
Shilajit, Lion's Mane, Reishi, Ashwagandha (KSM-66) and Maca are described factually in our Shilajit Complex. Each has a body of published research but none has authorised UK health claims. For evidence summaries see our Shilajit evidence review.
The Doctor-Designed Daily Routine
For most adults over 40 with no specific clinical issues, the default daily routine I'd suggest combines authorised-claim ingredients with optional researched-but-unauthorised additions:
- Morning — NMN Plus (500mg β-NMN + Trans-Resveratrol). Optionally Shilajit Complex.
- With food — Collagen Complex 5-in-1 (Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin; Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and skin).
- Evening — Magnesium Glycinate (Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function, normal functioning of the nervous system, normal psychological function and a reduction of tiredness and fatigue).
For convenience, this exact daily routine is bundled in our Spring Reset Bundle at £49.99 for the full set.
What Doesn't Earn Its Place
Standalone Resveratrol Products
Resveratrol has been studied for over twenty years and remains tantalising but unconverted. Bioavailability is poor; doses used in cell culture don't translate to humans; the most-cited papers have had reproducibility issues. We include trans-resveratrol in NMN Plus and Collagen Complex because the published longevity-pathway research examines it alongside other ingredients, not because resveratrol alone has an authorised claim or a settled case.
30+ Ingredient "Anti-Ageing Multivitamins"
These products typically dose every ingredient at the minimum claim threshold and charge a premium for combining them. Most fail on cost-per-active-dose. Single-ingredient products at meaningful doses are usually better value.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are anti-ageing supplements safe?
The ingredients in our range are well-tolerated at the doses we use, in adults without specific medical contraindications. Speak to your GP if you take prescription medication for any chronic condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are under 18.
How quickly do anti-ageing supplements work?
For the authorised vitamin and mineral contributions, effects are cumulative with consistent daily intake. For ingredients without authorised claims (NMN, resveratrol, collagen peptides, adaptogens), the published research generally examines outcomes at 8–12 weeks or longer. Anyone claiming acute effects in days is making a claim outside the published evidence base.
Are anti-ageing supplements regulated in the UK?
Yes — supplements are regulated as foods under retained EU food law (post-Brexit). The Food Standards Agency oversees safety; the Advertising Standards Authority oversees marketing claims. Only authorised health claims on the GB Nutrition and Health Claims Register may be made for specific nutrients. Marketing copy must describe unauthorised ingredients factually rather than asserting specific health benefits.
